Linda McNutt

Linda McNutt is a textile and multi-media artist and designer who lives and works in a converted dairy barn in Claverack, NY. Originally from Texas, she worked for 9 years in New York City and London as an architect, before moving to the Hudson Valley, where she had her own architecture practice for 30 years. She works in a variety of media, including fiber art, drawing, painting, watercolor, and collage.

“I am passionate about hand stitching, drawn to the tactile beauty of the assemblage of textiles and the use of stitch as a drawing medium and art form, and as a means of personal expression and transformation.

I work intuitively, drawn often to found fabrics and ephemera, and remnants of cloth that hold history or meaning. I often use natural fibers, and use natural plant dyes and prints to make my own cloth. Every stitch becomes a meditation, leading me deeper into the story that the cloth and thread wants to tell. I believe stitching and sewing is a healing act. It binds together not only cloth, but community. It is a tactile form of poetry that becomes a way to make spirit visible.”
